Hike focused too much on features like localized stickers, but the Indian audience cared more about simplicity and reliability. WhatsApp won by being straightforward, and Hike missed that opportunity. And that's unfair. Indian audiences didn’t even realize they needed these features until Hike introduced them. Stickers and hidden chats were a hit among youth. The problem was monetization and retaining users, not the features.

I agree! Hike introduced features that were ahead of their time, but don’t you think Indian users back then had a natural attraction toward international products? With WhatsApp already gaining traction, Facebook’s acquisition just cemented its dominance, making it even harder for a homegrown app like Hike to compete.
