The dizzying, overnight rise of a chatbot by DeepSeek, a little-known Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) lab, has roiled AI-related stocks and wiped out close to a trillion dollars in market capitalisation of such companies. The chips fall (as of 6:30 pm IST): 1. Chip makers and designers such as Arm, Broadcom, Micron, and Nvidia slumped in premarket trading. Nvidia shares fell 11.30%, wiping off close to $400 billion. 2. AI infrastructure companies Vertiv (16%) and Super Micro Computer (8.45%) also tanked. 3. Dutch chip equipment maker ASML was also down 8% in Europe. Big Tech companies such as Microsoft (down 5%), Meta (down 3%) and Google (down 4%) weren’t spared either. 4. Japan’s SoftBank tumbled by 6%.
