Perplexity, an AI startup, has launched Perplexity Assistant, a new AI-based assistant for Android devices aimed at competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT as well as Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa. The tool, supported by Nvidia and Jeff Bezos, is capable of booking reservations, hailing rides, and setting reminders, and is available in 15 languages on the Google Play Store. Perplexity expressed an interest in expanding the assistant to iOS if Apple grants the necessary permissions. Meanwhile, OpenAI, Apple, and Amazon are also advancing their AI assistants. OpenAI recently introduced the Tasks tool for ChatGPT, Apple has integrated Apple Intelligence into Siri and collaborates with OpenAI for enhanced capabilities, and Amazon plans to launch an updated version of Alexa in the coming months.
