Currently, there are over 12 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) in Bengal, the highest among all states in India. Among these, nearly 11 lakh groups have been assured financial assistance of ₹30,000 crore by the state government in the current fiscal year through loans. Out of this, ₹16,484 crore has already been disbursed by November of this year. What stands out even more is that Bengal's SHGs are the best in the country when it comes to repaying loans. According to data from recent years, 99% of loans taken by these groups have been repaid within the stipulated time. Loan defaults are also minimal. The Non-Performing Asset (NPA) rate in this sector is only 1.41%, the lowest among all states in India.
