Most VCs only work on recommendations or PR for easy filtration. They don't even check their mail. This make them miss good opportunities. At some point their focus shifts to managing, maintaining and exiting existing investments and investors. On the other hand, early VCs take this opportunity to climb on new potential startups. Also the reason why you see a lot of startups that make the headlines raising funds from multiple angels and early VCs
