It is actually a very good and important question. Based on my experience of learning what basic you can do is, join a startup company in your field, there you will get the ample of opportunities to work, explore and understand the ownership mindset. In general the exposure provided by such companies is very vast due to the small team. On the contrary if you are working with a big firm and do not have any direct touch with upper management try to observe more and more. Additionally there is always a problem no body talks about, you can be vigilant, vocal and with the right approach can get in the eyes of upper management people and hence you will unlock your opportunities automatically.
