Before criticising the government, please have a look around you. You live in a very poor country. If you are buying shoes above 15k or watches above 25k - you are in a much better position than your fellow countrymen. You are not just the 1%, you are the 0.1% or perhaps even more elite. 80 crore people don’t have enough money to eat. 90% of Indians earn less than 25000 a month. So if you can afford to spend that on a shoe or a watch - you should be paying more taxes. You should not curse the government but understand it is your bad luck that you were born in such a poor country. You should understand that it is your lack of talent or initiative that you were not able to leave the country. The government is not doing anything wrong. Higher consumption taxes on luxury items is the only possible way to tax the rich.

The country that does not respect and value time may become rich in GDP terms but will remain poor in per capita income forever.

We often talk about India becoming a superpower, but we can't ignore the high wealth inequality here. Have you ever felt that India is actually a poor country in some situations?
