Meet the Diabetes Capital of the World India. Yes. India takes the honors for having the highest number of adults having Diabetes - 212 Million (15% of our population). What is striking is that the India numbers are equivalent to the combined total of US, Germany, UK, Mexico, Brazil, Egypt, Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan. India’s diabetes crisis is even more severe in urban areas. City life often means eating more processed foods, sitting for long hours, and dealing with high stress. Back in 2017, the estimated productivity loss due to diabetes was worth INR 176.6 lakh crores, or roughly $2.6 trillion. This loss came from missed workdays, reduced work efficiency, and early retirement caused by complications from diabetes. How are we going to solve this?
