Avoid "Throwing People at Problems". Our team at Medial is quite small for a company that's doing what we are doing. People are often surprised when I mention that we are just 10 people strong (We were only 5 like 5 months ago). Whatsapp, Telegram, Instagram had all stayed small and still scaled to billion dollar companies due to the infinite scale potential they had. But this is due to one decision that me and my co-founders had made- don't hire until it's an absolute necessity. And even when we hire, we will make sure that the first 50 people that join Medial will be bosses of their own, having insane accountability and mad drive towards our mission statement. Lesser the people, faster you move. When you want to hire someone, question yourself if they have 8 hours of work or more for more than 6 months, if yes then go ahead. This doesn't mean you won't keep a lookout for bright talent. They never apply to jobs as such. You have to find them, convince them and then make them join your rocketship. That process is usually 6 months+ in timeline. Always be on the lookout. It is easy to get swayed when you have money. You can fall in the trap of hiring ("throwing") people at problems and most often it leads to chaos and unsatisfied employees, headache to management and wasted potential. Be lean, move fast and break things.
