While moving entirely to biological neurons, proteins, and cellular-based systems seems like a huge leap, I wouldn't say we're as far as it may seem. Some companies are already exploring hybrid approaches combining biological elements with machine learning. For example, Cortical Labs has created "DishBrain," a system that uses brain cells to perform tasks, essentially merging biological intelligence with synthetic systems. Similarly, Koniku has developed neuro-computational platforms that mimic biological functions for specific applications like smell detection. Itโs true that building a robot that acts exactly like a human might take a long time, but weโre making small steps in that direction. So, while weโre not there yet, the progress happening now shows that it might not be as far off as we think.
