Leaders, your words can either build bridges or burn them. I’ve seen too many teams stall because of a few choice phrases. Here are 6 common phrases that kill motivation: 1. “That’s not how we do it here.” ⤷ Innovation dies when you stick to outdated methods. 2. “You need to improve.” ⤷ ⁠Instead, tell them how they can grow. Offer guidance, not just criticism. 3. “I’ll handle it.” ⤷ ⁠Delegation builds trust. Don’t rob your team of that opportunity. 4. “I told you so.” ⤷ ⁠Nothing shuts down creativity faster than blame. 5. “Just be grateful you have a job.” ⤷ ⁠Gratitude doesn't equal fulfillment. Be the leader who inspires passion, not compliance. 6. “It’s not my problem.” ⤷ ⁠Lack of ownership breeds a toxic culture. Words matter. Choose them wisely.
