Agree! Absolutely. The idea of hiring people smarter than you is simple in theory, but ego plays sneaky mind games. What we do is 1. comfort zone bias: we often hire people who are just like us or slightly behind in skill. it feels safer, but that’s a shortcut to mediocrity. 2. fear of losing control: hiring someone smarter means relinquishing some control. we get caught in the idea that we need to be the best in the room, but that’s the fastest way to cap growth. 3. insecurity in leadership: it’s natural to feel threatened by people who know more, but smart leaders see this as an opportunity to grow, not shrink. recognizing this unconscious failure is step one. the next step? actively challenging yourself to recruit those who push your boundaries.
