Blunder or Masterstroke? - Zomato's acquisition of Paytm's entertainment and ticketing business for Rs 2,048 crore When Zomato bought Blinkit, everyone was of the opinion that it was a mistake, but it turned out to be a masterstroke. But, is the Paytm deal a mistake or a masterstroke? My Thoughts: 🤝 Why Blinkit was a success - Quick commerce was growing fast - Blinkit was a standalone product (then and even now), so userbase remained the same - With Blinkit, Zomato got not only the technology but also the operations, marketing, and brand 🔴 Why Paytm ticketing business could be a mistake - Currently integrated within Paytm's core app, not a standalone product - Zomato can't leverage the existing userbase, people will need to download a new app - Zomato can't leverage the existing marketing and brand of the product - Operations can be leveraged but is it worth Rs 2,048 crore? - Developing a new product could have been cheaper with Zomato's existing tech team What do you think?
