Dostoevsky explained criminal behaviour primarily in his book "Crime and Punishments" almost 200 years ago which can be verified using statistical data up to a very decent accuracy Criminals have two fundamental beliefs : (i) Other people hold NO intrinsic value This belief is generally by product of inequality and poverty, that's why almost 70% criminals came from weak economic background and commit crimes in those cities/villages where inequality (Gini coefficient) is high as people live in such places discriminate and label them as a "useless" person. (ii) I will remain same person even after committing the crime, it will not affect my relationships with other people. This beliefs comes from lack of understanding regarding psychology. Doing criminal act remove the ability to form trust with anyone in life. With no trust, it is impossible to remain functional and maintain sanity for longer duration. It removes the ability to feel satisfaction and make criminal act worthless
