In an interview with the Indian Express, Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated that India needs to create between 60 to 148 million new jobs by 2030. She suggested that the country should aim to generate 10 to 24 million jobs each year. Gopinath highlighted that India is performing "extremely well" in terms of economic growth and plays a significant role in global growth. She emphasized that India's growth can be both boosted and maintained, which would also raise per capita income. "It's crucial for growth to be accompanied by a substantial number of jobs," she remarked. Gopinath cautioned that this would not be achieved by focusing on just a few sectors. Instead, broad-based growth across various sectors is necessary.
