#DataDeepdive: Delhi Govt’s education success, that even CM Kejriwal missed talking about 📛📛 -> No. of schools in Delhi has fallen for 7 straight years -> Same for the number of teachers. As a result, the no. of students per teacher has hit an all-time high And, this is all official data which was released by Delhi Govt’s Ministry of Finance in its economic survey earlier this year. .. And once you dive deeper into data, more worrying trends emerge 📛📛 Primary and pre-primary schools: Down 10% to 2,942 Teachers down by 12% Middle schools: Down 14% to 803 Teachers down by 15% Secondary schools: Down 11% to 367 Teachers down by 6% Snr secondary schools: Up 7% to 1,826 Teachers up by 14% .. Clearly, whatever officials focus on senior secondary schooling, they have done a relatively fantastic job. But, what about pre-primary, primary, middle and secondary schooling? -> With these schools shutting down, but the number of students only growing, it’s no wonder that schooling fees are shooting up so fast -> Worse, the remaining schools are not adding as many new teachers, because of which the no. of students per teacher is hitting a new high every successive year .. Just take the case of primary and pre-primary schools. -> The students per teacher there were 71 back in FY17 -> And since then it has been consistently increasing and hit an all-time high of 82 in FY23, up 16% In face, in the case of middle schools, this is up 22% 📛📛 That’s a very alarming trend! .. Somehow, nobody picked this up. BJP, the so-called opposition had no time to look into it, given it was so busy with its Hindu-Muslim agendas. And media, we all know what they are about. So, why bother! .. Meanwhile, imagine the plight of common households, who are seeing: -> Schools shutting down -> Avg teacher’s time towards their child falling to a new low every year -> While the cost of education is only going up dramatically That should make anyone worry about Delhi’s state of education affairs 📛📛 .. And it gets worse. As a %age of Govt expenditure, Delhi, since Shiela Dixit’s times has always spent more on education than rest of India by a big wide margin. So imagine the rest of India’s state. Period!
