"For every million dollars spent, one life is lost" This was a quote by Joseph Strauss, the Chief engineer of the Golden Gate Bridge. So Untill 1930s, construction of large infrastructure projects never focused on worker safety. Because of this, numerous people use to die during a construction. But Joseph was quite particular with worker safety. So when he was made the incharge of the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge, he introduced many safety measures to prevent worker's death. Some of them being: 1) Instalation of Safety Nets, 2) Mandatory Helmet, 3) Safety Lines and Harness, 4) On site medical facility and 5) Proper Training. Over $35 Million was spent on it's construction and because of the safety measures, only 11 people died. And it was only because of this construction that people started valuing workers life and took some safety measures to prevent their death.
