This is the story of how three friends built a unicorn just by helping people find cheap flights. So Skyscanner was started by Gareth, Barry, and Bonamy in 2013, who often struggled to find cheap flights to ski resorts. It compares flight prices across different travel websites and shows the cheapest options. Users can then book directly through those sites. Later, they acquired and shut down many of their competitors, like Zoombu and Youbibi. In 2013, Sequoia Capital's investment valued the company at $800 million. Later, a Chinese travel company called Trip.com acquired it in 2016 for $1.75 billion! Today, Skyscanner boasts over 100 million visitors with peak annual revenue of $350 million. It also offers hotel and car rental bookings. How it earns? 1. Ads 2. Commission from booking platforms 3. Travel API fees 4. Selling search data to airlines I'm using it since two years, and it’s the best tool to find the cheapest flights. Did you ever used it?
