Since you're transitioning from full stack development, you already have a good foundation to build on. I’d suggest starting with the basics: get comfortable with Python and SQL, and learn about different databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc. From there, dive into ETL tools like Apache NiFi or AWS Glue, and get a grip on data warehousing with tools like Redshift or BigQuery. Big data is crucial, so mastering Hadoop and Spark is essential.

I'd suggest you try your hands on cloud platforms like AWS or GCP, and learn about data pipeline orchestration with Apache Airflow. Real-time data streaming with Kafka and data modeling techniques are also important. Also get to know monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana, and understand data governance and security practices. For courses, I did Coursera’s Google Cloud Data Engineering and UCSD’s Big Data Specialization. Udemy has some great options too, like The Data Engineering Master Class. Books like "Designing Data-Intensive Applications" by Martin Kleppmann are also invaluable.
