On the contrary you should have a product before marketing not the perfect version but the base version or else the marketing you are putting forward to get traction won't work as it would be vague. and as we have learned through several ads and champagne marketing works best when it's specific and targeted to specific customer base.

From what my school teachers about marketing it says Marketing begins even before creating the product. In market product is designed according to need and preferences of customer and than only go for sale to only right audience.
