Half-yearly updates (with opinions) - (Long 🧵) 1/ Tried something in the AI/education domain. Spoke with some of the finest minds. Most are comfortable joining after substantial progress. So much about the early hustle part, eh? 🥲 (Lack bandwidth. Can't do it alone.) 2/ Fundraising is unnecessarily difficult. Sometimes - even a joke. Your investors want to see commitment. Okay, but my man - why would I preach something I despise? - i.e. > Trying to change the old ways of the world following the same rules? *Few early stagers relate to this. 3/ There's more toxicity in startups/workplaces than I anticipated. Was under the impression that seniors would be different (from India) and everyone would be mission-led as popular narratives suggest. Well, not so much (plug-in:- subjective biases) *Won't stick for long if you, as a leader, start falling apart. Fruits of the same tree. 4/ Creating access - to info/resources individually doesn't work @ scale. You'll wear yourself out and others will benefit from kindness (also termed as - tomfoolery in an ecosystem like ours.) trying to get ahead of you (same 'ole Indian rat race/crab mentality.) Creating competition that shouldn't even have existed in the first place? Caveat here is - where do you draw the line? with collaboration by putting yourself out there more and finding your tribe? 5/ Choose your gods wisely. Not everyone is worth the love and affection. Work only with those who have a far-sighted vision - works for everyone- a/ investors, b/ early employees, c/ Partners, d/ and well, even friends. 6/ Most want to make winning bets but not everyone wants to hustle. Tolerance for pain/discomfort is too low. 7/ Your gods - are humans after all. And you can't expect them to be at their best always.
