The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced the launch of a government-run dating app aimed at encouraging marriage and addressing Japan's declining birth rate. Set to debut this summer, the app requires users to undergo a thorough registration process, including proving they are legally single, willing to marry, and disclosing personal details such as income, occupation, and education. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reverse the declining birth rate, which saw a significant drop in 2023. Births fell to a record low of 758,631, marking the eighth consecutive year of decline. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has described this demographic trend as the "gravest crisis" facing Japan, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
