This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reverse the declining birth rate, which saw a significant drop in 2023. Births fell to a record low of 758,631, marking the eighth consecutive year of decline. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has described this demographic trend as the "gravest crisis" facing Japan, emphasizing the need for urgent action.
