I faced this problem before, and thought exactly same as you did. But the main problem i found was, it needs the actually people who is interested in same sport and also from the same city. I faced my problem that there are very few people from one city or area, it needs to be marketed and placed well through good advertising of awareness among the players. Here is a way to monetize it too, By tieing up with sports shops or brand charging commissions from them, and running the adss is the best way you can earn money but it will need time, focus on creating awareness. Suggestion, focus on Tier 2 selected cities and target the players there. Best Wishes...!
