Sivasankaran.Aircel expanded its services and became prominent telecom operators in India,known for its competitive pricing and strong presence in certain regional markets. In 2006 Maxis Communications acquired a 74% stake in Aircel, which helped in expanding its operations.It was a Fifth largest operator in Wireless Connections share of 8% in the market till the launch of Jio. After launch of Jio it started experiencing reduction in market share. Aircel stRuggled with high debt their parent company stopped funding it so they decided to merge with Reliance communication which will have 15% market share but it fell apart. In 2018, Aircel filed for bankruptcy due to its inability to cope with mounting debts and operational losses after several months they ceased operation and left costumers to post to other operators.
