Same here. I wanted to pursue a career in music, but my parents pushed me toward engineering. It’s tough because they think they’re doing what’s best for us, but it’s hard to be motivated when you’re not interested in what you’re studying.

It’s a common story in many cultures, not just India. Parents often think traditional careers like engineering or medicine guarantee stability. Maybe try having a serious conversation with them about your interests and how you can still be successful in another field.

Parents usually mean well, but they sometimes fail to see the bigger picture. A career should be fulfilling, not just financially stable. If you’re truly unhappy, it might be worth reconsidering your path and finding a compromise.

I dropped out of engineering to pursue a career in graphic design. It was tough at first, but I’m much happier now. It took a while for my parents to come around, but seeing me happy and successful helped them understand.

Also, remember that it's never too late to switch paths. Plenty of people change careers later in life. You might find a way to leverage your engineering background into something more aligned with your passions.

This will shift eventually. The science jobs are saturating, other fields will gain momentum.

Trust me, engineering is the best thing that can happen to you specially if it is some other state. It'll make you so ready for the world that money won't ever be a problem plus a lot of engineers end up in creative fields.
