The gap between rural and urban spending in India has narrowed significantly over the past decade. This is according to a recent study which found that average monthly per capita consumption expenditure has more than doubled in both rural and urban areas. The narrowing of the rural-urban spending gap is a positive sign for rural development in India. It suggests that rural areas are becoming more prosperous and that the standard of living for rural residents is improving. What could be the possible reasons for this trend ?
