What's going on with the startup world at the moment? I've been closing transactions for many startups in my legal career but what I'm noticing at the moment is what I've only heard of the past. Some of my friends who work in the PE/VC and Angel funds say they are not getting money from the investors. What they've been saying is, there's a trend going on among the investors that instead of giving money to the funds/fund managers, the investors are looking opportunities to invest by themselves. Such down trend of flow of money to the funds may lead to the recently created PE/VC, Angel funds in India. More like "Ye to shuru hote hi khatam ho gaya". On one side we were hoping to become another Silicon Valley and on the other side, we're seeing downfall of the trust fsctor within the funds.

We may see a bit of a reset and shake-out, but I don't think this spells the end of startup investment in India. The long-term potential is still there if you're patient.

Lack of trust in the fund managers could be warranted if they've been underperforming or mismanaging money. LPs do need to be selective. This sounds like a make-or-break moment for India's VC/PE scene. The weak funds will fail but the best should still be able to raise capital from smart money. Lots of folks exiting

"Ye to shuru hote hi khatam ho gaya" line is pretty brutal but rings true for a lot of these newer, inexperienced Indian funds if the money really dries up.

The startup funding landscape definitely seems to be going through a rough patch right now. Investors getting more cautious with their money is never a good sign.
