Upfront Cost Vs Total Cost of Ownership EVs may have a higher Upfront Cost but they actually have the lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles. See the table below. It shows total cost of ownership for a 200,000 km lifetime of a car. Key Insights: 📌 The upfront cost of EVs is higher than petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles, but government subsidies can significantly reduce this difference. 📌 EVs have a much lower fuel cost per kilometer than petrol, diesel and CNG vehicles. 📌 EVs also have lower lifetime maintenance costs than petrol and diesel vehicles. Of course, there are some other important factors to consider when choosing a new car, such as the availability of charging stations for EVs and refueling stations for CNG vehicles. However, EVs are becoming a more and more cost-competitive option, especially for drivers who plan on driving their car for a long time.
