I have experience in running a pharmacy, we used to depend on 3-4 distributors on a daily basis. Not all distributors maintain inventory for all brands. If i get A,B,C brand items from one distributor, another would give me D,E,F brand items and along with B brand. This may look like very unorganised or chaotic system but for the people who are inside the system it is easy and comfortable system. The pharmacy owners maintain very good relationship with the distributors and also have many options if someone is being unfair or not treating them properly. Also everybody makes money in this system, but if we have only 3-4 companies who control the market, then it is a bad situation for pharmacy owners since they don't have other choice and will be exploited by thes corporates.

I agree with the conclusion, when it's just 3-4 distributors for all medicines it becomes monopolistic, Indian pharma would become like the U.S where an average insulin costs $300 whereas with India's present market configuration it costs only 10$ for insulin.
