Conclusion: please don'ts discourage him by saying this much is not enough, let him start and please advice him to go with PASSIVE INDEX FUND, these funds are far better than any hifi sounding funds. Tell your friend to invest it as he is doing, and keep compounding the base amount as his income grows, I think that would Make sense.

Tell your friend to invest 4k a month and every year with a hike in salary increase the same amount of percentage in sip too. But keep investing for a magical compounding after a decade on your investment

Or ask him to collect six months capital which will be 24k and then invest. I think with 4k every month you will just land up buying 1-2 shares of companies which will have no impact. Infact you'll pay more brokerage than the profits. Good stocks are quite expensive nowadays and unfortunately we don't have fractional trading yet.

Just invest in large cap stocks like ITC, TCS,HDFC,INFOSYS.Because he will earn passive income dividends and good returns. But,only if the market will fall then he will buy this stocks on attractive price is good..Because nowadays market is overvalued..so wait and buy this good companies..

Hey , Doing SIP is a good idea but without definte goal it's nothing.
