The project will be implemented as a joint venture by Bengal Gas Company and the state government. About ₹120 crore worth of investments would be required to build the plants. The locations for the three plants have been finalised in Chandannagar, Rishra, and Sonarpur. Apart from these, three future biogas plants will also be built, for which Madhyamgram, Palta, and Panihati have been selected as the locations. About 5 tons of organic gas can be produced from every 100 tons of waste. The waste thrown from different municipalities would be used to create gas in these plants to meet gas demands.
