It offers real-time, hyperlocal insights on sales and consumer behavior through features like Zepto Atom Maps, minute-by-minute sales data, and an NLP helper, Zepto GPT, for strategic recommendations. Aimed at creating a new revenue stream, the subscription tool supplements the existing free Zepto Brand Portal, providing advanced insights previously unavailable on Indian e-commerce platforms.

Zepto tries "Swap and Save" feature for clearing slow-moving stock

Zepto is piloting a "Swap and Save" feature, allowing users to substitute cart items with cheaper alternatives. While it may seem counterintuitive to increasing average order values, the feature aims to clear unsold or slow-moving inventory, especially perishables, and offers monetization potential through new seller discounts and promoting private labels. This initiative follows the launch of Atom, a subscription-based data insights tool for consumer brands, replacing the Zepto Pass subscription service with Zepto Daily.

The Zepto Atom subscription is a top-up to the already existing Zepto Brand Portal (which gives brands listed on the Zepto platform basic day-to-day data on their performance on Zepto and is available for free). The value of the Zepto Atom subscription is the next level of insights brands can derive from this tool, most of which are not available on any e-commerce platform in India today. For example: 1) PIN-code-by-PIN-code market share data and brand performance: Through Zepto Atom, brands can examine a live map of every neighbourhood and PIN code they have presence on Zepto and derive hyperlocal insights on their performance. For example, a brand can see on Zepto Atom Maps that their sales are under-indexed in the western neighbourhoods of Hyderabad and double down on pricing, marketing, or distribution efforts in those geographies to unlock growth. 2) Live metrics visibility refreshed every minute: On Zepto Atom, brands can see minute-by-minute sales, customer impressions, and conversion data and optimise advertising campaigns, pricing, and their product range according to different consumption trends for their products throughout the day and week. 3) Zepto GPT: Zepto Atom has an in-house Natural Language Processing (NLP) assistant that is trained on the Zepto Data set to give brands insights that can improve their performance. For example, brands can ask Zepto GPT "How can I grow my market share in Bengaluru for the protein bar category?" or "What are the key consumer preferences driving energy drink sales among Gen Z in Mumbai?". Zepto GPT then analyses the vast datasets within Zepto Atom to provide actionable answers, strategic recommendations, and even generates data reports on behalf of the brand. 4) Advanced Behavioural Data: Zepto Atom goes beyond basic sales and conversion data. We are now providing brands data on customer repeatability and retention, share of voice in search and home page, full-funnel visibility on customer purchase behaviour with their product etc.

Zomato-owned Blinkit has launched Bistro, a quick commerce app for 10-minute food delivery in select areas of Delhi-NCR. Bistro offers a wider range of products compared to its competitor, Zepto Cafe. Unlike Swiggy's Bolt, Bistro does not partner with restaurants for its operations. The launch of Bistro follows Zepto Cafe's plan to spin off its cafe offering into a separate app due to its popularity. Swiggy's Bolt already accounts for 5% of the company's total orders within two months of launch. The 10-minute food delivery segment is attracting interest from newer players like Swish, who recently raised $2 million.

PhonePe enters quick commerce via Pincode: Report Walmart-backed PhonePe is set to enter the quick commerce market through its e-commerce venture, Pincode, according to a media report. This marks the third attempt by the Sameer Nigam-led company in online retail. In April last year, PhonePe's Pincode app exited non-food categories on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). It now offers only food delivery and unreserved ticket booking on ONDC. According to a report by ET, Pincode has fully pivoted to the quick commerce model, launching 15-minute deliveries in select areas of six cities: Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, and Varanasi. The company plans to expand its coverage to about 25% in these markets in the coming weeks, with the full service rollout expected between April and June 2025. Entrackr has reached out to PhonePe for comments. Following Flipkart, PhonePe will be the second company from the same group to venture into the instant delivery market, with Zomato and Blinkit being other notable examples in this space. In recent months, both established and emerging companies have entered the quick commerce sector. Blinkit, Zepto, and Instamart lead the market, while newcomers like Flipkart, BigBasket, and Amazon are expanding their presence. Beyond groceries, there's a growing trend of 10-15 minute food deliveries, with Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, Zepto, Ola, and Magicpin sequentially announcing their entry into this space.
