X will allow political ads from candidates, parties ahead of US election

The social media company formerly known as Twitter, now called X, has announced that it will allow political advertising in the US from candidates and political parties, expanding its safety and elections team in preparation for the 2024 presidential election. Prior to being acquired by Elon Musk, Twitter had banned all political ads globally since 2019. In January, Twitter lifted the ban for "cause-based ads" in the US and planned to broaden the types of political ads permitted. This move aims to boost X's revenue, as many advertisers have reduced spending due to concerns about inappropriate content adjacency. X will establish a global advertising transparency center, continue to prohibit false information and undermining election ads, and address content manipulation and emerging threats.
