Women fund managers struggle to see their tribe grow. Can fund houses help?

The number of women fund managers in the Indian Mutual Funds industry has remained constant at 42, which is less than 10% of the total fund managers. This is primarily due to the limited talent pool of women in the industry, as brokerage houses, where many fund managers start, have traditionally been male-dominated. Additionally, by the time women reach the qualifying stage for fund management, they often reach marriageable age and may prioritize family responsibilities. However, fund houses acknowledge the value and diversity women bring to the industry and are actively working towards increasing their representation through initiatives like hiring women as management trainees and providing support during maternity breaks.
