Why AWS, Google and Oracle are backing the Valkey Redis fork
TechCrunch

The Linux Foundation will host Valkey, a fork of the Redis in-memory data store, after Redis Labs switched its licensing to a more restrictive Server Side Public License (SSPL). Valkey is backed by AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle, Ericsson, and Snap. The fork was expected after Redis Labs' licensing change, as it required commercial agreements for Redis-as-a-service, making it incompatible with the standard definition of open source. The Valkey community is working on a compatibility release, but it is unlikely to stay aligned with Redis in the long run.

Amazon's cloud chief, Adam Selipsky, disagrees with critics who claim that Amazon is falling behind in the race to develop generative artificial intelligence (AI). Selipsky believes that there won't be a single model to dominate the field, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) already offers multiple AI models for different use cases. While competitors like Microsoft and Google are gaining ground in the cloud computing market, AWS continues to invest in AI innovations, such as its Trainium chips and Amazon Bedrock platform. Selipsky remains confident that Amazon will remain a leader in cloud computing. AWS customers and partners, including Nvidia and Pfizer, are already leveraging generative AI to improve productivity and customer interaction.
