EV tech and energy storage firm Matter Motor announced that it has secured a first tranche of $35 million in Series B round led by US-based venture capital firm Helena. Other notable investors in this round include, Capital 2B, Japan Airlines & Translink Innovation Fund, Saad Bahwan Investment Management Company (SB Invest), other Institutional investors and Family Offices. The capital will be used to accelerate MATTER’s innovations in electric motorbikes and scaling in manufacturing, supply chain, marketing and retail, the company said in a press release. The firm recently raised $10 million as a part of the ongoing round which is likely to be closed at around $70 million. As per TheKredible’s estimates, the company has been valued at around Rs 1,690 crore or $204 million post-allotment. The valuation will vary after the completion of the round. Matter launched its maiden bike in early 2023 and began its pre-orders in May 2023. The firm has developed its in-house technology stack, leveraging the power of data, software and machine intelligence to create a 4-speed hyper-shift geared electric motorbike, AERA. As per the company, its product empowers riders to charge anywhere by delivering over 125 kms range per charge with a 5-amp onboard charging system. As of now, Matter has secured 40,000 pre-bookings for its electric motorbike AERA, which is set to commence deliveries this festive season. Recently, Matter’s chief executive said that the firm ​​is looking to raise between $100 million and $200 million in the next two years to establish a new manufacturing facility with total installed capacity for producing 1 million e-motorbikes. Matter was in the pre-revenue stage during the fiscal year ended March 2023 while the losses for the firm stood at Rs 25 crore in the same period. It’s yet to file its annual results for FY24. In the premium e-bike segment, Matter competes with Bharat Forge-backed Tork Motors, TVS-backed Ultraviolette and RattanIndia Enterprises-controlled Revolt. Ola Electric, which currently manufactures electric scooters, is also planning to enter the e-bike segment by early 2026.

Cumin Co. raises $5 Mn pre-Series A round led by Fireside Ventures Gurugram-based kitchenware startup Cumin Co. has raised $5 million (around Rs 41 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round led by Fireside Ventures. Existing investors Huddle Ventures and Alteria Capital also participated, along with several angel investors. Earlier in August last year, Cumin Co. had raised its first institutional funding of $1.5 million (about Rs 13.16 crore) led by Fireside Ventures along with participation from Huddle Ventures. The proceeds will be used to expand the product portfolio across cookware and kitchen essentials. It also plans to strengthen its supply chain, increase investments in R&D, and improve manufacturing and product innovation capabilities. Founded by Niharika Joshi and Udit Lekhi, Cumin Co. operates in the premium kitchenware segment and focuses on research-led product development. The brand sells cookware and kitchen essentials directly to consumers through online channels. Cumin Co. builds its products around proprietary material and coating technology under its Enviromax platform. It holds three granted patents and has five more pending, covering material science, surface coatings, and product design. Going ahead, Cumin Co. will continue to focus on controlled expansion, selective channel rollout, and improving unit economics as it scales its operations. It competes with other notable startups in this space such as Indus Valley and Palette Brand’s Ember. Indus Valley secured Rs 23.1 crore in a pre-Series A round led by DSG Ventures, while Palette Brands raised nearly Rs 17 crore in a pre-Series A round led by Rockstud Capital.

Electric mobility startup Matter has raised Rs 82.6 crore (approximately $10 million) in a new round. This is the maiden round of equity funding for the Ahmedabad-based e-bike manufacturer. The board at Matter has issued 1,12,837 CCPS at an issue price of Rs 7,320 each to raise Rs 82.6 crore (approximately $10 million), its regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies shows. Japan Airlines & Translink Fund invested Rs 25 crore while Info Edge backed Capital 2B Fund poured in Rs 10.8 crore. Helena Special Investments Fund and Abhay P Shah, on behalf of Miracle Carriers are likely to participate in the fundraising. As per TheKredible estimates, the company has been valued at around Rs 1,690 crore or $204 million post-allotment. The e-bike manufacturer was reportedly in talks to raise $200 million to expand its operations, distribution and factory setup. Matter launched its maiden bike in early 2023 and began its pre-orders in May 2023. A year-old firm was in the pre-revenue stage during the fiscal year ended March 2023 while the losses for the firm stood at Rs 25 crore in the same period. It’s yet to file its annual results for FY24. Matter positions itself as a premium brand and this could be evident from its price-range which starts from Rs 1.7 lakh. Unlike Ola Electric and Ather, Matter is not targeting a mass audience and doesn’t compete with the two and other traditional manufacturers. In the e-bike segment, Matter competes with Bharat Forge-backed Tork Motors, TVS-backed Ultraviolette and RattanIndia Enterprises controlled Revolt. Tork Motors raised $6 million from Maxis Capital in January this year whereas Ultraviolette has been reportedly in talks to raise a larger round to the tune of $100 million. Ola Electric, which currently manufactures electric scooters, is also planning to enter the e-bike segment by FY26.

Electric vehicle super-app ElectricPe has raised $3 million in pre-Series A round led by Green Frontier Capital along with participation from its existing investors Blume Ventures, Micelio Fund, and NB Ventures. The Bengaluru-based company had previously raised $5 million in pre-Series A round from its existing investors. The fresh funds will be used for growth, innovation initiatives, and expansion to new geographic locations, ElectricPe said in a press release. Co- founded in May 2021 by Avinash Sharma and Raghav Rohila, ElectricPe is a full-stack super – app that allows users to identify, access and pay for EV charging points regardless of their charging type. The platform’s multi-brand stores present prospective buyers with a wide range of E-2 wheelers to choose from while also offering users EV financing, servicing and subscription plans. Recently, ElectricPe collaborated with Google which enables users across India to view the availability and status of charging points in real-time. ElectricPe says that it operates in more than 25,000 public chargers and claims to have captured over 15% of the market share of all personal EV 2-wheeler sales in Bengaluru within 8 months. ElectricPe may directly or indirectly compete with other startups in this space such as e-Amrit, Statiq, PlugShare and others. Green Frontier Capital is an early-stage VC fund and backed some of the prominent startups like Battery Smart, BluSmart Mobility, E-Motorad, Nutrifresh amongst others.

GRAVITY, a hyper-personalised banking platform, has raised $1 million in a pre-series A funding round, led by Kettleborough VC. The round also saw participation from eminent personalities from the banking industry and a few HNIs. The Mumbai-based startup plans to deploy the capital towards tech development and execution of organic growth cycles, GRAVITY said in a press release. Launched in March 2024 by Satish Krishnaswamy and Rohit Maroo, GRAVITY enables banks to create a tailored experience for both retail and enterprise customers. The platform enables interoperability amongst all the underlying banking softwares managing core banking systems (CBS), payments, LOS, LMS, treasury, depository, among others. Using this ecosystem, banks can develop contextual and customised products on top of their existing solutions, as per the customers’ need and eligibility. As per the company, banks can achieve several efficiencies such as routing IMPS transactions through NEFT if the IMPS server is down, offering instant loans to customers facing failed transactions due to low account balance and launching new products or workflows within 2-3 days using its API symphony, among many other use cases. Kettleborough VC, an India-based early-stage venture capital led by seed investor Nisarg Shah, launched its maiden VC fund in October 2022. Since then, it has backed startups such as InPrime Finserv, Finhaat, Giga Fun Studios , Zocket and ONWO, among others.
