Twitter’s music label legal trouble might have legs

The lawsuit against Twitter, now known as X, by music labels for copyright infringement can proceed, as ruled by US District Judge Aleta A. Trauger. The judge denied X's motion to dismiss parts of the lawsuit, stating that it is still unclear to what extent X may be liable for the infringing acts of users on its platform. The National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) sued X last year on behalf of major publishers, accusing the company of breeding massive copyright infringement. The judge allowed some of the NMPA's claims to proceed, including allegations related to X's premium subscription and its failure to respond to infringement claims in a timely manner. However, claims of direct copyright infringement and vicarious liability were dismissed.
