These sats are valuable because of their scarcity and can sell for millions of times their face value. Restey is part of a small group of enthusiasts who deposit and withdraw bitcoin from exchanges in order to find these rare sats. While the number of undiscovered sats is shrinking, Restey continues to hunt for them. The rarity of these sats was created with the introduction of the Ordinals protocol, which allowed for the differentiation and tracking of sats. Some in the bitcoin community have criticized the creation of rare sats as a departure from the original purpose of bitcoin.
