Some of the world's biggest cloud computing firms want to make millions of servers last longer — doing so will save them billions of dollars every year

Tech giants such as Alphabet, Amazon, and Cloudflare are finding ways to extend the lifespan of their server equipment, resulting in billions of dollars in savings. Alphabet, for example, saved $3.9 billion in depreciation costs and increased net income by $3.0 billion by extending the lifespan of its servers. Amazon and Cloudflare have also followed suit, with Amazon expecting to contribute $900 million to net income and Cloudflare saving $20 million through this strategy. This move not only reduces costs but also highlights advancements in hardware technology and data center designs.
