He played a pivotal role in developing PowerPoint's direct-manipulation interface, making it user-friendly for creating presentations. Forethought released PowerPoint in 1987, and Microsoft acquired the company shortly after for $14 million. Austin continued to lead its development until his retirement in 1996. PowerPoint is now used to create over 30 million presentations daily.
