Following over 2.5X revenue growth in FY22 and FY23, Gurugram-based Park+ reported a 36.5% year-on-year revenue increase for the fiscal year ending March 2024. Despite its rapid expansion, the five-year-old company maintained tight control on expenses as its losses increased only 4% in the last fiscal year. Park+ revenue from operations grew to Rs 131 crore in FY24 from Rs 96 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies show. Founded by Amit Lakhotia, Park+ provides car cleaning, parking solutions for homes, malls, and offices, fine (challan) payments, insurance management, and car service. It also expanded into ancillary offerings like FASTag issuance and EV charging networks. The sale of services which includes commissions of FASTags, rental of access control, advertisement, valet service, and parking formed 80% of the total operating income which increased by 44% to Rs 104 crore in FY24. The rest of the collections came from the sale of products such as access control, FASTtag, radio frequency tag, and others. Employee benefits was the largest cost center for Park+, accounting for 41% of the overall expenditure. This cost increased 29.5% to Rs 101 crore in FY24 from Rs 78 crore in FY23. This includes Rs 27 crore as ESOP cost. The cost of materials consumed including the procurement of FASTags, radio frequency and related materials grew 65.7% to Rs 58 crore in FY24. Advertising, legal, technology, conveyance and other overheads took the overall expenditure to Rs 245 crore in FY24 from Rs 202 crore in FY23. A sharp rise in ESOP costs and material expenses resulted in a 4% increase in losses, bringing them to Rs 103 crore in FY24. Its ROCE and EBITDA margins stood at -72% and 68% respectively. On a unit level, it spent Rs 1.87 to earn a rupee in FY24. Park+’s total current assets were recorded at Rs 160 crore in FY24 including the cash and bank balances of Rs 102 crore. Park+ has secured $54 million in funding across various rounds and was valued at around $355 million during its Series C round in December 2022. According to the data intelligence platform TheKredible, Peak XV is the largest external stakeholder, followed by Matrix and Epiq Capital. Its founder and CEO Lakhotia owns 45% stake in the company. Park+ competes with Get My Parking, Park Smart, and Parky, among others. In June, the company ventured into the on-demand driver services segment with Drive+, positioning it as a potential competitor to DriveU, Drivers4Me, Driverzz, PickMyCar, Namma Driver, and Cars24. The segment, while high on activity and startups, remains in its infancy, with rules, technology and users still evolving. One feels the truly ‘killer’ use case is still not in hand, even as volumes continue to rise. However, much like fuel deregulation that allowed a huge rise in credit cards powered by discounts on fuel purchases, somehow, the idea of parking or toll charges driving the same sort of opportunity escapes this writer. Most of the aggregation also remains nowhere close to an ‘essential’ for a driver, further placing retention at risk, and driving up user acquisition costs. Could this be a case of problems that seemed big only in the rarefied world of well off VC’s? It won’t be the first time (or the last) VC’s confused a problem they face with a broader market demand. We should know soon enough over the next few quarters.

However, the losses for the Rainmatter Capital-backed company decreased substantially in the last fiscal year. Fittr’s revenue from operations saw a modest 3% decrease to Rs 85 crore in FY24, from Rs 87.5 crore in FY23, as per its consolidated financial statement sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC). Founded by Jitendra Chouksey, Sonal Singh, Jyoti Dabas, Rohit Chattopadhyay, and Bala Krishna Reddy, Fittr is a community-based health and online fitness marketplace. It creates customized workout plans based on fitness goals, equipment available, time available, and exercise style preferences. Revenue from fitness and wellness online services contributed the majority at Rs 80 crore, despite a 4.42% decline compared to 83.7 crore in FY23. New revenue streams like smart ring sales added Rs 80 lakh, while academic fees and other income sources contributed Rs 2.8 crore and Rs 1.4 crore, respectively. The company earned an additional Rs 1.3 crore from non-operating revenue which pushed its total revenue to Rs 86.3 crore in FY24. Fittr’s total expenses declined significantly by 26% to Rs 97 crore in FY24 from Rs 131 crore in FY23. The reduction was driven by a 36.2% cut in employee benefits (Rs 20.8 crore), a 65.8% reduction in advertising costs (Rs 8.4 crore), and a 30% decrease in other overheads (Rs 13.5 crore). Expenditure on consultants and study material, the largest cost component, remained stable at Rs 54.3 crore. With the controlled expenses across verticals, Fittr’s losses shrank by 73.5% to Rs 11 crore in FY24 from Rs 41.5 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -38.89% and -10.66% respectively. Fittr’s expense-to-earning ratio stood at Rs 1.14. As of March 2024, the firm reported Rs 46.5 crore of current assets including Rs 27.8 crore of cash and bank balance. According to TheKredible, Fittr has secured a total funding of $17 million to date including a $3.5 million round led by Zerodha-backed venture fund Rainmatter. Surge, Dream Capital (now shut down), and Elysian Park are other notable investors of Fittr.

StayVista’s revenue from operations increased to Rs 140 crore in FY24 from Rs 114 crore in FY23, according to its financial statement sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC). StayVista connects property owners with travelers seeking vacation rental accommodations. The platform enables property owners to list their rentals, while facilitating bookings and online payments. Revenue from these services was the company’s sole source of income. With minor contribution from other income, the company posted total revenue of Rs 143.48 crore in the last fiscal year. On the expense side, the cost of materials—the company’s largest expense category—increased by 17.7% to Rs 109.5 crore in FY24. Employee benefit expenses also rose sharply, up 33% to Rs 28 crore, while legal and other operational expenses remained relatively stable at Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 11 crore, respectively. Overall, the company’s total expenses stood at Rs 152 crore for the year, marking an 18.8% increase from Rs 128 crore in FY23. StayVista reduced its losses by 33.3% to Rs 8 crore in FY24 from Rs 12 crore in the previous fiscal year. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -28.81% and -5.31%, respectively. On a unit level, StayVista spent Rs 1.09 to earn a rupee in FY24. As of March 2024, the Mumbai-based firm reported current assets worth Rs 50 crore which includes Rs 39 crore in cash and bank balances. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, StayVista has raised a total of $7.5 million of funding till date, having DSG Consumer Partners as its lead investor who owns 17% of the company. Its co-founders Amit Damani, Ankita Sheth and Pranav Maheshwari together own 32.4% of the company. According to media reports, StayVista is planning to go public through an IPO by 2028, with a goal of raising Rs 600 crore (around $72 million) to further expand its network across India.

Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri and 99acres, published its financial statements on Thursday. The consolidated figures showcased a modest 8% increase in revenue for FY24. However, the company made a turnaround in its bottom line, transitioning from a loss of Rs 70 crore in FY23 to a profit of Rs 594 crore in FY24. Info Edge’s revenue from operations grew 8% to Rs 2,536 crore in FY24 from Rs 2,345 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements disclosed with the stock exchange shows. Meanwhile, the company posted a 4.8% increase in revenue to Rs 657 crore in Q4 FY24 from Rs 627 crore in Q3 FY24. The Sanjeev Bikchandani-led firm operates through different segments. Income from Naukari.com and related portals formed 74.1% of its total revenue which increased 7.49% to Rs 1,880 crore in FY24. Its other segment 99acres saw a 23.6% growth to Rs 351 crore in FY24. Jeevansathi and Shiksha combined participated with Rs 305 crore of revenue during FY24. Info Edge made Rs 414 crore from non-operating activities tallying its total revenue to Rs 2,950 crore in FY24. Akin to other internet companies, its employee benefits accounted for 61% of its total expenditure which grew only 2.83% to Rs 1,128 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,097 crore in FY22. Info Edge’s network/internet, advertising cum promotional, legal, traveling and other overheads push the total expenditure to Rs 1830 crore in FY23 from Rs 1,858 crore in FY23. Note 1: The company recorded exceptional items of Rs 110 crore and Rs 509 crore in FY24 and FY23 respectively due to the decrease in the carrying value of investments. This was the primary reason for the significant loss posted in FY23. Note 2: The company has 15 joint ventures including Makesense, Happily Unmarried’s Ustraa (now acquired by VLCC), Shopkirana, Juno, Sploot and others during FY24. Info Edge recorded a share loss of Rs 131 crore and 231 crore in FY24 and FY23 respectively in its joint ventures which also makes a part of its consolidated figures and reflects losses in the financial statements. At the end, Indo Edge posted a net profit of Rs 594 crore in FY24 where the figures stood at a loss of Rs 70 crore in FY23 (refer note 1 and 2). On a unit level, it spent Rs 0.72 to earn a rupee in FY23.

Its cost and commission surged 70% and 48% to Rs 17 crore and Rs 43 crore in the previous fiscal year. Its cost of materials, legal, technology, traveling, and other overheads took the overall cost up by 22% to Rs 144 crore in FY24 from Rs 118 crore in FY23. The increased advertising and commission costs led Treebo to raise its losses by 16.7% to Rs 28 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 24 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -540% and -18.1% respectively. On a unit level, it spent Rs 1.32 to earn a rupee in FY24. The company’s total current assets stood at Rs 34 crore with cash and bank balances of Rs 7 crore in the previous fiscal. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, decade-old Treebo has secured Rs 566 crore (approximately $70 million) in funding from investors including Accor, Elevation Capital, Matrix Partners, and Bertelsmann. The company’s most recent major funding, amounting to $16 million, was raised in June 2021. Treebo competes directly with Bloom Hotels and FabHotels. In FY24, Bloom Hotels saw its operational revenue rise by 73.6% to Rs 250 crore, with a profit of Rs 14 crore. FabHotels recorded Rs 224 crore in operating revenue for FY23 but has not yet filed its FY24 annual report.

Consultant fees and marketing costs were reduced by 57% and 24%, respectively, to Rs 26 crore and Rs 69 crore in FY24. Other expenses totaled Rs 332 crore in FY24, down from Rs 395 crore in FY23. The cutback in costs helped MakeO reduce its losses by 31.8% to Rs 150 crore in FY24 from Rs 220 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -77.3% and -66.12% with an expense-to-earnings ratio of Rs 1.85. At the end of FY24, MakeO’s current assets were Rs 153 crore with cash and bank balances of Rs 93 crore. MakeO has raised over $90 million to date, including $16 million led by 360 One Asset and the investment office of Ashish Kacholia. Eight Roads Ventures is the largest external stakeholder, followed by Think Investment.

Launched in 2008 by Sagar Daryani and Binod Homagai, Wow! Momo Foods operates three QSR brands—Wow Momo, Wow China, and Wow Chicken. The company claims to have a network of 630 outlets across 35 cities and a workforce of 6,000 employees. Revenue from the sale of momos, food, and beverages contributed 97% of the total operating income, which grew by 11.5% to Rs 456 crore in FY24. The remaining revenue came from frozen momo sales. Wow! For the QSR firm, the cost of material procurement formed 26.6% of total expenditure, increasing 15.3% to Rs 158 crore in FY24 in line with revenue growth. Expenses related to power/fuel, rent, advertising, commissions, finance costs, and other overheads contributed to a 11.9% rise in total expenditure, reaching Rs 593 crore in FY24. The 13.8% increase in scale, along with controlled expenses, helped Wow! Momo maintain steady losses at Rs 114 crore in FY24. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -8.33% and 7.93%, respectively, with an expense-to-revenue ratio of Rs 1.26. By the end of FY24, Wow! Momo's total current assets were recorded at Rs 250 crore, including Rs 175 crore in cash and bank balances. Wow! Momo has raised over Rs 600 crore to date, including $42 million (Rs 350 crore) in its Series D led by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sovereign wealth fund of Malaysia. According to the startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Tiger Global is the largest external stakeholder followed by Treeline Investment. Wow! Celebal Technologies’s revenue from operations increased to Rs 275 crore in FY24 from Rs 192 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) show. Co-founded in 2016 by Anupam Gupta and Anirudh Kala, Celebal Technologies specializes in data science, AI, and enterprise cloud solutions. Technology consulting remains the sole revenue driver for the Jaipur-headquartered firm. It also earned Rs 6 crore from interest and the sale of current investments, bringing its total revenue to Rs 281 crore in FY24. With a presence in the USA, APAC, UAE, Europe, and Canada, the company generated Rs 122 crore from international markets. Like other SaaS firms, employee benefits were the largest cost center for the company, accounting for 71% of total expenses. This expense surged 87% to Rs 245 crore in FY24 from Rs 131 crore in FY23. Notably, the firm has a dedicated workforce of over 2,000 professionals. Technical services, rent, travel, advertising, and legal expenses were among the key overheads that pushed Celebal Technologies’ total expenditure up by 73%—from Rs 199 crore in FY23 to Rs 344 crore in FY24. An 87% rise in employee benefits—primarily salaries and wages—outpaced revenue growth, pushing Celebal Technologies’ losses to Rs 60 crore in FY24 from Rs 1 crore in FY23. At a unit level, the company spent Rs 1.25 to earn a rupee, while its ROCE and EBITDA margins declined to -39.1% and -19.2%, respectively. By the end of FY24, its total current assets stood at Rs 139 crore, with cash and bank balances of Rs 18 crore. Celebal Technologies secured its first institutional funding of $32 million in 2022, led by Norwest Venture Partners. The company later raised debt from BlackSoil. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Norwest holds the largest external stake at 19.58%, while the two co-founders collectively own over 70% of the company’s capital.
