Microsoft's Satya Nadella tried to hire Sam Altman. He got Mustafa Suleyman instead.

Microsoft has hired Mustafa Suleyman, the co-founder of Google DeepMind, to lead a new group spearheading its consumer AI initiatives. This move is part of Microsoft's efforts to compete in the AI race with Google and other competitors. Suleyman's hire comes after Microsoft's failed attempt to bring in OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for a similar role. With Suleyman's expertise and Microsoft's existing relationship with OpenAI, the company aims to push its AI ambitions forward and attract top talent in the field. Suleyman will oversee projects such as Copilot, Bing, Edge, and the GenAI team.
