Meta's Threads app: The text-based social media platform from Instagram trying to replace X

Meta launched a social networking venture called Threads in July 2023. The app aims to provide a platform for public conversations, primarily focusing on text-based communication. Users can post threads, engage with others through likes and replies, and share media files like photos and videos. Threads gained initial popularity by leveraging Instagram's user base. It features a feed similar to X (formerly known as Twitter), and has a character limit of 500 for posts, compared to X's 280-character limit. However, Threads faced initial privacy concerns and criticism for not allowing users to delete their Threads accounts separately from their Instagram accounts. While it achieved significant downloads and user activity upon launch, time will tell if Threads can sustain its popularity and potentially rival X as a leading microblogging website.
