Meta, the parent company of Facebook, spent a total of $6.6 million on private jet flights for CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former COO Sheryl Sandberg in 2022, according to The Wall Street Journal. This amount represents a 55% increase since 2019. Zuckerberg's private flights alone cost $2.3 million in 2022, with his jet making 28 trips emitting 17 times more carbon than the average American in a year. In addition, Meta paid approximately $27 million for Zuckerberg's security and private jet travel in 2021. Sandberg's travel expenses are no longer covered by Meta after her departure, but the board agreed to pay for her private security until June 2023 due to ongoing threats. S&P 500 companies reportedly spent $41.3 million on corporate jet travel for CEOs in 2022.
