MeitY asks all social media intermediaries to remove all bomb hoax content, cooperate with probe agencies

The Indian government has directed social media platforms to remove hoax bomb threat content from their platforms in an effort to maintain public order and security. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology advised all social media companies to promptly remove any misinformation that affects public safety. There has been an increase in hoax bomb threats on social media, disrupting operations and causing diversions of aircraft. Social media intermediaries are also expected to cooperate with government agencies investigating these hoaxes by providing necessary information. The government has redefined rules for handling these threats, especially when multiple threats are delivered from a single anonymous account.
