Govt to enable citizens to file FIR against social media firms for IT rule violation

The government of India will introduce a platform to help citizens file FIRs (First Information Reports) against social media platforms for violating IT rules. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) will develop this platform to allow users to report violations and file complaints easily. Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that there will be zero tolerance for IT rule violations and that FIRs will be registered against intermediaries or entities that disclose the origin of objectionable content. Social media platforms have been given seven days to align their terms of use with the IT rules.
