It’s the airplane of the future. It’s still grounded.

The Airbus A220, previously known as the CSeries, is facing challenges with durability problems affecting its jet engines. Pratt & Whitney, the manufacturer of the engines, has stated that many of them need to be sent for repair much earlier than expected. This has resulted in flight cancellations and grounded aircraft, with estimates suggesting that 15% of global A220s are currently grounded. Despite its innovative design and fuel efficiency, the A220 has faced multiple obstacles throughout its development, including delays, cost overruns, and intense competition from established rivals. Engine issues and uncertain demand remain significant hurdles for Airbus, making it difficult to devise future strategies for the aircraft.
