India faces 3000% surge in API cyber attacks: report

In the July-September quarter, India witnessed a 3000% surge in cyber attacks on application programming interfaces (APIs), marking an increased risk for organizations heavily reliant on API gateways. During this period, there were 1.2 billion attacks detected, including 271 million API attacks. Cybersecurity company IndusFace reported an 85% increase in API-focused distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks compared to website attacks. Additionally, bot-driven threats impacted 90% of websites, with a 145% rise in bot activity. The report also highlighted higher rates of DDoS attacks on small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and the increasing targeting of financial data in the banking sector.
