Importers of laptops, tablets to seek fresh authorisation for next year; window to open on December 13

Importers of certain IT hardware products, such as laptops and tablets, will need to obtain fresh authorization for the next year. The application window for authorization will open on December 13, according to a public notice by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The authorizations issued for imports of restricted goods under the Import Management System (IMS) will be valid until December 31, 2025. This move comes after the government extended the approval system for these IT hardware imports until December 31, 2024. The new license regime aims to ensure India's trusted supply chain and monitor inbound shipments of these products without disrupting market supply.
