Nao Spirits, the parent company of the gin brand Greater Than, reported more than double its growth in the fiscal year ending March 2024. Despite this substantial growth, the Goa-based company effectively managed to keep its losses in check during the same period. Nao Spirits' revenue from operations grew by 145% to Rs 81 crore in FY24 from Rs 33 crore in FY23, its annual financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies show. Founded in 2015 by Anand Virmani, Abhinav Rajput, Aparajita Ninan, and Vaibhav Singh, Nao Spirits is a craft distillery based in India, known for producing premium craft gins like Greater Than and Hapusa. Income from the sale of these gins was the sole source of revenue for Nao Spirits. While the majority of Nao Spirits' revenue is generated within India, export earnings contributed Rs 2 crore in the previous fiscal year (FY24). For the liquor maker, the cost of excise duty was the largest cost center which accounted for 48% of its overall cost or nearly half of its revenue. This cost surged 7X to Rs 43 crore in FY24 from Rs 6 crore in FY23. Nao Spirits’ cost of procurement and employee benefits grew 42% and 33% to Rs 17 crore and Rs 8 crore respectively. The company also spent Rs 17 crore on advertising and business promotion. Its legal, traveling, rent, and other overheads tallied its total cost to Rs 96 crore in FY24 from Rs 50 crore in FY23. The over two-fold scale and controlled expenditure helped Nao Spirits to reduce its losses by 11% to Rs 14.6 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 16.4 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin improved to -55% and -13.64% respectively with a better expense-to-revenue ratio which stood at Rs 1.19. During FY24, the company had a total current assets of Rs 48.7 crore. Nao Spirits has secured a total of Rs 54 crore ($6.5 million) in funding over five rounds. Their most recent funding was a Series B round on March 12, 2022. Nao Spirits' gin, Greater Than, has firmly established itself as a prominent brand in the Indian market, with widespread availability across the country. The next 2–3 years are expected to be dynamic for Nao Spirits and it may introduce new products and innovations to further engage gin enthusiasts. Titan-owned CaratLane has continued its growth trajectory as its revenue grew 42% in the fiscal year ending March 2024. The company’s profit dipped marginally due to aggressive expansion, though. CaratLane’s revenue from operations grew to Rs 3,081 crore in FY24 from Rs 2,169 crore in FY23, its consolidated annual statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC) show. CaratLane sells gold, silver, and diamond jewelry for both men and women through its website and network of offline stores. As per its website, the firm operates over 262 stores across 105 cities. The sale of the jewelry was the sole source of revenue for CaratLane in FY24. The company also earned Rs 25 crore from other financial activities, taking the overall revenue to Rs 3,106 crore in the said fiscal. For the jewelry maker, the cost of procurement of material/stones was naturally the largest cost center forming 69% of the total expenditure. The expansion of stores appears to be the reason for the marginal dip in PAT. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 34.88% and 8.98%, respectively. CaratLane directly competes with Bluestone which recorded Rs 788 crore in operating revenue for FY23 and reportedly raised Rs 900 crore ($107 million) in pre IPO round. Tata Digital-owned BigBasket is making a strategic shift to focus exclusively on the burgeoning quick commerce market targeting $1.5 billion (Rs 12,400 crore) in total sales for the current fiscal year (FY25). While the impact of the pivot and its new target will unfold after the completion of FY25, it crossed the Rs 10,000 crore topline mark in FY24. Significantly, BigBasket also narrowed down losses by over 20%. BigBasket’s revenue from operations went up 6.27% to Rs 10,061.9 crore during the fiscal year ending March 2024 as compared to Rs 9,468.5 crore in FY23, as per the company’s consolidated financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies (RoC). It’s worth highlighting that, Supermarket Grocery Supplies Private Limited is the main entity of BigBasket which also includes its business-to-consumer (B2C) unit, Innovative Retail Concepts Private Limited, and other acquired companies. The company made 97% of its total operating revenue via the sale of grocery products and the rest came from ancillary services and other operating activities. It also earned Rs 37.89 crore from interest and gain on financial assets which took the firm’s overall revenue to Rs 10,099.8 crore during the last financial year (FY24). BigBasket, which recently announced a pivot of its business entirely to quick commerce, is planning to consolidate services by merging its BBdaily subscription service into its main app. By aligning its operations with 10-15 minute delivery, BigBasket is positioning itself to compete more aggressively with established players like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Flipkart Minutes. Moving to the expenses, the cost of goods sold (COGS) accounted for 71.3% of the total expenses and grew 3.4% to Rs 8,209.6 crore in FY24. The controlled expenses also helped in reducing losses significantly which shrank 20.73% to Rs 1,415 crore during FY24. Its operating cash outflows also improved by 18.5% to Rs 1,103 crore during the year. BigBasket’s outstanding losses stood at Rs 7,619.85 crore as of FY24. The Bengaluru-based firm’s EBITDA margin improved by 463 BPS to -9.39% in FY24. On a unit level, BigBasket spent Rs 1.14 to earn a rupee of operating revenue during the last fiscal year. Revenue from these services was the sole source of income for the company. Progcap made an additional Rs 20 crore from interest on deposits and gains on current investments which pushed its total income to Rs 159 crore in FY24 from Rs 102 crore in FY23. On the expense side, employee benefit costs remained the largest expenditure, accounting for 61% of the total expense, to the tune of scale. This cost grew by 15% to Rs 124 crore in FY24. The firm’s finance costs surged sharply to Rs 22.5 crore from just Rs 1 crore in FY23. Other major expenses included collection deficiency charges (Rs 9.5 crore), travel expenses (Rs 6 crore), and miscellaneous costs. Overall, the company’s total expenses grew by 36% to Rs 203 crore in FY24 from Rs 149 crore in the preceding fiscal year. Progcap managed to cut its losses by 6% to Rs 46 crore in FY24 from Rs 49 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA Margin improved to -2.96% and -11.32% respectively. On a unit basis, the company spent Rs 1.46 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in FY24. The Delhi-based firm reported current assets worth Rs 1,321 crore which include Rs 163 crore of cash and bank balance in FY24. According to TheKredible, Progcap has raised a total of approx $112 million in funding to date, having Tiger Global, Peak XV, Creation Investments, and GrowX Ventures as its lead investors. Fractal’s revenue from operations grew 26% to Rs 2,765 crore in FY25 from Rs 2,196 crore in FY24, as per its consolidated financial statements sourced from the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). The company derives nearly all of its revenue from analytical services, which contributed Rs 2,701 crore in FY25, up 24% from the previous year. Subscription income surged 167% to Rs 64 crore, pushing overall top-line growth. Fractal’s revenue base continues to be dominated by the US market, which contributed Rs 1,802 crore in FY25, up 33% from Rs 1,358 crore in FY24, and accounted for 65% of total operating revenue. Revenue from Europe grew 12.56% to Rs 484 crore, making up 17.5% of the total. India contributed Rs 232 crore, a 22% increase from the previous year, representing 8% of revenue. The revenue from the rest of the world rose 13% to Rs 247 crore. Fractal’s customer relationships remained a key driver of growth. The firm has served its top 10 clients by revenue in the Fractal.ai segment who contributed 54% to segment revenue in FY25 for an average of more than eight years. On the expense front, employee benefit costs remained the largest outgo at Rs 2,005 crore, accounting for 78% of the total, and grew 15% over FY24. Depreciation expense increased by 23% to Rs 102 crore, while outsourced manpower costs decreased by 3.33% to Rs 58 crore. Marketing expenses dropped by 31.58% to Rs 13 crore. Legal and professional fees climbed 13% to Rs 52 crore. Overall, Fractal’s total expenses rose 14.4% to Rs 2,575 crore in FY25, slower than the pace of revenue growth. As a result, the company swung to profitability, posting Rs 221 crore in net profit, in contrast to a loss of Rs 55 crore in FY24. On a per-unit basis, the company spent Rs 0.93 to earn a rupee in FY25. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 12.97% and 14.13% respectively. The analytics company had current assets worth Rs 1,625 crore, including Rs 288 crore in cash and bank balances in FY25. As per the DRHP, TPG Fett is the largest external stakeholder with 25.67% followed by Apax Partners-owned Quinag Bidco, which commands 18.78% in the company. Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri and 99acres, published its financial statements on Thursday. The consolidated figures showcased a modest 8% increase in revenue for FY24. However, the company made a turnaround in its bottom line, transitioning from a loss of Rs 70 crore in FY23 to a profit of Rs 594 crore in FY24. Info Edge’s revenue from operations grew 8% to Rs 2,536 crore in FY24 from Rs 2,345 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements disclosed with the stock exchange shows. Meanwhile, the company posted a 4.8% increase in revenue to Rs 657 crore in Q4 FY24 from Rs 627 crore in Q3 FY24. The Sanjeev Bikchandani-led firm operates through different segments. Income from Naukari.com and related portals formed 74.1% of its total revenue which increased 7.49% to Rs 1,880 crore in FY24. Its other segment 99acres saw a 23.6% growth to Rs 351 crore in FY24. Jeevansathi and Shiksha combined participated with Rs 305 crore of revenue during FY24. Info Edge made Rs 414 crore from non-operating activities tallying its total revenue to Rs 2,950 crore in FY24. Akin to other internet companies, its employee benefits accounted for 61% of its total expenditure which grew only 2.83% to Rs 1,128 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,097 crore in FY22. Info Edge’s network/internet, advertising cum promotional, legal, traveling and other overheads push the total expenditure to Rs 1830 crore in FY23 from Rs 1,858 crore in FY23. Note 1: The company recorded exceptional items of Rs 110 crore and Rs 509 crore in FY24 and FY23 respectively due to the decrease in the carrying value of investments. This was the primary reason for the significant loss posted in FY23. Note 2: The company has 15 joint ventures including Makesense, Happily Unmarried’s Ustraa (now acquired by VLCC), Shopkirana, Juno, Sploot and others during FY24. Info Edge recorded a share loss of Rs 131 crore and 231 crore in FY24 and FY23 respectively in its joint ventures which also makes a part of its consolidated figures and reflects losses in the financial statements. At the end, Indo Edge posted a net profit of Rs 594 crore in FY24 where the figures stood at a loss of Rs 70 crore in FY23 (refer note 1 and 2). The revenue for FY23 appears different this year as it marks FabHotels’ first set of financial statements prepared in compliance with Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS). FabHotels, a budget hotel chain with over 600 properties across more than 50 cities in India, generated 99.4% of its gross revenue from accommodation bookings. Gross revenue increased by 33.35% to Rs 549 crore in FY24. Meanwhile, other revenue sources contributed Rs 3.3 crore. The company also recorded an additional income of Rs 11 crore from interest on deposits and liabilities written off, which pushed its overall revenue to Rs 563.6 crore in the last fiscal year. Accommodation expenses remained the largest cost component forming 74% of the overall cost, which grew by 32% to Rs 435 crore. FabHotels’ employee costs shot up 2X to Rs 92 crore in FY24. This includes Rs 15 crore as ESOP cost. Its commission expenses rose by 8% to Rs 27 crore, while other costs added Rs 34 crore. Overall, total expenses grew by 38.5% to Rs 588 crore in FY24 from Rs 424.7 crore in FY23. The two-fold jump in employee benefits led FabHotel to increase its losses by 23% to Rs 114 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 93 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA Margin were recorded at -84.09% and -19.52%, respectively. On a unit basis, the company spent Rs 1.06 to earn a rupee of revenue. At the end of FY24, FabHotel’s current assets stood at Rs 172 crore, including cash and bank balances worth Rs 94 crore. FabHotel has raised around $70 million to date. Accel is the largest external stakeholder with 21.39% followed by Goldman Sachs. FabHotels competes directly with Treebo and Bloom Hotels. In FY24, Treebo surpassed Rs 100 crore in revenue, while Bloom Hotels achieved a 73.6% increase in operational revenue to Rs 250 crore and recorded a profit of Rs 14 crore. FabHotels, with its budget offerings and reach, faces a moment of truth to deliver sustainable profitability that can power future growth. The hospitality sector leaves very little margin for major misses now. FabHotels has placed its bets, with little leeway to change much now. Judgement awaits in the next few months and year, perhaps.

Treebo spent 41% of its overall expenditure on employee benefits which increased marginally by 7% to Rs 59 crore in FY24. Its cost and commission surged 70% and 48% to Rs 17 crore and Rs 43 crore in the previous fiscal year. Its cost of materials, legal, technology, traveling, and other overheads took the overall cost up by 22% to Rs 144 crore in FY24 from Rs 118 crore in FY23. The increased advertising and commission costs led Treebo to raise its losses by 16.7% to Rs 28 crore in FY24, compared to Rs 24 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -540% and -18.1% respectively. On a unit level, it spent Rs 1.32 to earn a rupee in FY24. The company’s total current assets stood at Rs 34 crore with cash and bank balances of Rs 7 crore in the previous fiscal. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, decade-old Treebo has secured Rs 566 crore (approximately $70 million) in funding from investors including Accor, Elevation Capital, Matrix Partners, and Bertelsmann. The company’s most recent major funding, amounting to $16 million, was raised in June 2021. Treebo competes directly with Bloom Hotels and FabHotels. In FY24, Bloom Hotels saw its operational revenue rise by 73.6% to Rs 250 crore, with a profit of Rs 14 crore. FabHotels recorded Rs 224 crore in operating revenue for FY23 but has not yet filed its FY24 annual report.

Online travel aggregator (OTA) Yatra has released its financial results for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal year (Q3 FY24). After sinking into the red in Q2, the company bounced back and recorded profits in Q3 along with crossing Rs 110 crore revenue mark during the period. Yatra’s revenue from operations grew 17.2% to Rs 110.3 crore in Q3 FY24 as compared to Rs 94.13 crore Q2 FY24, as per the firm’s consolidated financial results sourced from the National Stock Exchange. While compared to Q3 of the previous fiscal year (Q3 FY23), the operating revenue of the company increased over 23% from Rs 89.6 crore. The company made 40.3% of its total operating revenue via Hotels and packages bookings which grew 23.4% to Rs 44.5 crore in Q3 FY24 from Rs 36.06 crore in Q2 of the same financial year. Revenue from air ticketing increased 5.9% to Rs 41.5 crore during the same period. The remaining Rs 24.3 crore came from other operating services and advertising income from hosting ads on its website, sale of coupons and vouchers and facilitating website access to travel insurance company. Yatra also earned Rs 8.86 crore as non-operating income (mainly from interest and gains on financial assets). This took the overall revenue to Rs 119.2 crore during the quarter. On the cost front, service cost which only relates to its hotel and packages vertical accounted for 23% of the total expenses. This cost surged 68.7% to Rs 26.9 crore in Q3 from Rs 15.95 crore in Q2 of the same fiscal. Whereas, employee benefits expenses for the company shrank 12.6% to Rs 32 crore during the quarter from Rs 36.6 crore in Q2 FY24. Yatra also incurred marketing and promotion costs of Rs 10.7 crore and payment gateway expense of Rs 12.7 crore in Q3 FY24. In total, Yatra’s overall expenditure increased just 3% to Rs 117 crore during Q3 from Rs 113.6 crore in Q2 FY24. With the controlled expenses, Yatra turned profitable and booked Rs 1.06 crore profits Q3 against Rs 17.13 crore loss in the previous quarter. Last year in the same quarter (Q3 FY23), it posted Rs 5.6 crore in losses. On a unit level, Yatra Online spent Re 1.06 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in Q3 of FY24. For the nine-months period (Apr-Dec 2023), the firm registered Rs 314.6 crore revenue from operations with a loss of Rs 10.08 crore. Yatra Online made its entry into the Indian public market in September last year with a share price of around Rs 136. With a market cap of over Rs 2,700 crore, it is currently trading at Rs 170 per share. Other than this, the company is also listed on NASDAQ with a current share price of $1.64 per share and a market cap of $105 million.
